ConTempo OFF
We are pleased to announce that for the second year in a row, the ConTempo OFF adventure is being added to the main programme of ConTempo International Festival of Performing Arts.
ConTempo OFF is an independent experimental platform initiated by Kaunas City Chamber Theatre and audiovisual experimental company Kosmos Theatre. It aims to present interdisciplinary works by Lithuanian creators that do not fit into the traditional boundaries of music, theatre or art and conventional festival formats. On August 7th in the one-day program we will present 6 different works including an exhibition, a performance, a concert, a performance, a virtual reality experience and more. The OFF program is structured around the following priorities:
– Presentation of non-traditional works by emerging artists (presentation of complete or work in progress pieces);
– interdisciplinary work by experienced creators from different fields;
– interactive and personally experiential self-propelled audiovisual installations.
In this year’s ConTempo OFF programme, Kaunas City Chamber Theatre will be full of life all day long and will invite you to all its spaces. Eglė Jasaitytė’s exhibition “OK, How Are You?” will invite you to reflect on the emotional state of human beings and the emotional burden that lies beneath this phrase in the theatre lobby. In order to bridge the gap between art lovers, the works in the exhibition have been adapted for the visually impaired.
Two virtual reality experiences will be available throughout the day, allowing you to travel through the work and lives of two artists of different Lithuanian origins who have gained recognition abroad. These are the immersive portraits of the Paris School painter Vytautas Kasiulis and the Bolivian painter Jonas Rimša “Gyvenimas klajonėse” and “Nugalėti plokštumą” – created by the director and screenwriter Žilvinas Vingelis, the painter Rimas Sakalauskas, the composers Andrius Šiuris and Edvinas Siliūnas, in collaboration with the interactive solutions company “Gluk Media”.
Kamilė Galkutė and Saulius Požerskas’ sky and sound experience experiment “Nebula” will take place in the courtyard of the theatre, inviting to pay attention to the clouds.
The small hall of the theatre will host the performance “Sudievinta” by choreographer Tadas Almantas, dancer and artist Clara Giambino, pianist David Morrow and playwright Miglė Remeikaitė, questioning the stereotypes of women’s role in society, and “Three Poems” by pianist Julia Bagdonavičiūtė, a concert-narration revealing the unexpected contexts in which the piece was created. The Great Hall will host a performance of puppets and objects for adolescents and adults “LAPSUS MEMORIAE” by the ecologically creative artists Gustė Balčiūtė, Severija Bružaitė and Emilė Varkulevičiūtė, who will raise the question of the importance of imperfection.
