For as Long as We’re Here
IrelandCategory: TOP, YOUTH, GURMAND
‘For As Long As We’re Here’ is a series of performance installations whereby 3 circus artists perform an uninterrupted durational performance of a single circus trick for up to 4 hours. Over the course of the day the performers are slowly transformed by the weight of time and effort.
Darragh McLoughlin (b. 1987, Ireland) is an interdisciplinary artist, the artistic director of Squarehead Productions, an alumnus of ACAPA (Netherlands), and a laureate of the prestigious European contemporary circus platform circusnext. In his work, McLoughlin blurs the boundaries between live performance and conceptual visual art. Guided by his signature “[re]framing” methodology and inspired by cognitive sciences, game theory, and minimalism, he transforms the stage into a living canvas, exploring what happens when a body’s physical action is exhibited as a piece of visual art within a gallery or museum space.
Tomáš Václavek graduated from Vertigo (IT) and DOCH (SWE). He is touring with his own show “OVVIO” and seems to speak all the languages – visually and linguistically. Tomáš climbs up and down his (circus) ladder while keeping it in balance for the duration of the performance.
Namer Golan spent his days juggling before he (almost obsessively) started balancing things on the top of his head. He is touring with another company in France and Israel and will always have a jar of Tahini on him. Namer balances a very long tube on the top of his head for the duration of the performance.
The presentation of the performance at ConTempo Festival is supported by the Culture Ireland Foundation.
