Orbes

Vague and unfamiliar objects that suddenly appear in our usual spaces raise questions and arouse us such necessary curiosity. One such experience is the installation “Orbes” by the Catalan director Jordi Galí, which keeps interrogating how a gesture appears in relation to matter and to a context. Now that many skills and experiences are soaked in, what kind of gesture can be engaged to try researching new relationships between these elements? How can such a gesture be a singular exploration of what is at stake between bodies and what surrounds them, between people watching and people doing?
“Orbes” gives shape to a desire for a new experience. The piece is for five performers, who are free from all connection to an object this time. Their five bodies are the installation itself, and they are all at once actors and mediums of the constructions, the builders and the very materials of the architectures created.

Born in Barcelona, Jordi Galí studied contemporary dance and worked with Wim Vandekeybus, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Maguy Marin among others. Since 2014, he shares the artistic direction of the company with choreographer Vania Vaneau. His work centres on exploring the relations between the body and the materials, between the gesture and the object, and is especially designed for the public space. As monumental and ephemeral constructions, his performances open a singular temporality in urban or natural landscapes. They aim to offer to the inhabitants, public and users the possibility to perceive differently the context of everyday life.
