“tremolo” (it. trembling) – a musical term meaning multiple, rapid repetitions of a single sound, interval, or chord.
What has been and continues to be repeated to us many times? What remains unspoken but we would like to know, understand, and hear from others so that each of us could feel normal and healthy in our sexual lives?
The director chooses a format which integrates lecturing and performance, best allowing her to address the topics of women’s body awareness, sexual health, and self-worth through the principal prism of sexual pleasure. She combines research-based information with documentary stories of people who identify as women.
Laura Kutkaitė is a Lithuanian theatre artist. Her debut performance “Sirenų tyla” (“Silence of the Sirens”, Lithuanian National Drama Theatre) won her the title of best young European director at the “Fast Forward” festival in Dresden in 2022, where in 2023 she premiered her new work with German actors. That same year in Lithuania, Kutkaitė was nominated for the Golden Stage Cross as Best Young Artist for her performance entitled “Teiresijo krūtis” (“Tiresias’ Breast”, Lithuanian National Drama Theatre).
Kutkaitė’s work features themes related to the body, gender, social exclusion, and identity control. She perceives feminism as an intellectual commitment, and each of her works becomes an effort to loosen patriarchal constraints and empower women. The director values vulnerability and pays much attention to the creative process: the creators’ internal processes are often transferred to the stage, so the boundary between acting and documentary is deliberately blurred. The most important tool in Kutkaitė’s work is humour, which gives her the best way to delve deeper into the desired themes.
